Whenever blogspot ask me for my blogging password, I nue I've been out of touch for more than a while. Well, the final clinical term ain't exactly like you can sit ard e pc and shake legs heh.. Rushing for schedules, competencies, completing ur cases and wat not..
With e exception tonight coz of a single event which is definitely worth mentioning and remembering..
Not becoz its post-V-day event or pre-CNY event.
But becoz of a simple act of human kindness..
Through 2 yrs of clinical practice, I have seen a fair share of pts (patients) ranging from model pts who are punctual, compliant to oral hygiene instructions and dental appts, motivated, accepting to our treatment plans to e pts on e opposite end of e spectrum aka FON (full of nonsence). Some of e things the latter grp of pple do can juz either make you wince in disgust (or amusement), or puke blood. But of coz, our current patient pool is only a small fragment of e patients we are gg to see in e near future coz e pts whom we are seeing now need our undivided attention and tlc (tender loving care). i.e. Ever since they were accepted for dental student treatment, we haff to render a complete management of their oral health care. As it is, I've seen 23 mainstream pts (excluding ortho and pedo pts) whom I've nursed them to health, function and/or asesthetics in disciplines of perio, operative dentistry, endo, removable and/or fixed prosthesis. Some are still ongoing- hopefully I can finish their treatment in the last 5 wks of clinics. Some are my friends and may be reading this right now. One, who is previously my exam case, is seen for not less than 30 visits for severe gum disease, caries, RCT, extractions and a crown thus far. She also has had PG endo tx and PG perio surgery done. I still need to fabricate a upper CoCr denture and an AEB for her in e remaining 5 wks. And she is one model patient: punctual, compliant to oral hygiene instructions and dental appts, motivated and accepting to my treatment plan. Kindness bestow kindness and I'm compelled to finish treatment for her before the end of this term.

For all u human beings out there, its basic human courtesy to call and cancel appts. I get very irritated when the patient is MIA or consecutively late with no good reason watsoever. For those who still haff e mindset that they are e guinea pigs and they are doing us a service by coming here, well, pls get lost en. In actual reality, under e supervision of specialists and professors, where every single stage haff to be checked, only quality work are rendered. Inferior work would mean a redo and/or a reprimand from e instructor. And so in an indirect way, you are paying for a specialist work at 1/5 (or less!) e price of a GP! Wats not to like? But ofcoz- time is a big minus factor. Haffing little experience, we tend to take longer time for e procedures; and not forgetting e waiting time as every step needs to be checked by e instructor, who is shared among 5-6 other students. So to those with attitude problems, either brush up ur attitude or go f*** urself.

Anywae, back to the highlight of this day:
The reason why I'm smiling now iz becoz I recieved a hong bao from my patient, B.
No.. its not e money tat I'm concerned abt.
It's becoz B is 28 yr old, only 4 yrs older than me, and NOT married.
B is unemployed at the current moment, and his family isn't very well-to-do. He had to borrow $100 from his brother to pay for his first crown.
And B is an indian.
And all these plus B is another model patient. He comes punctually, sometimes earlier and sometimes slightly later due to traffic. There was one occasion when there was a miscommunication and he came 2 hr b4 e appt.. I brought him ard to e kopitiam, science canteen and even e medical library (shh..) where he can spend his time either surfing e net or reading e papers. And everytime he come for appts, he would haff questions abt his dentition or abt e problems he has with brushing and flossing. And today I saw him for e final recall, after completion of his treatment comprising of od, 2 RCT and their respective cast-post-core cum PFM crowns. Its with a tinge of sadness as I discharged B, but he was telling me he will come and look for me after graduation. If tat doesn't move me, I dun nue wat will.
